The 2008 Holocaust Movie Watching Guide

This is some pretty funny stuff.  New York Magazine asks the question “which of this fall’s oscar baiting holocaust movies is right for you”.  Because there are six of them currently in contention, the magazine has been kind enough to provide a flow chart to help you decide.

My personal favorite part of the chart? “Which is most likely to distract you from the fact that you’re actually supposed to be rooting for a member of the SS?” seconded only by “How do you like your Nazis?” with the path leading to “As red hot NILFs”.

Saturday Morning Musings

Yes, I’m aware that its 5:15 AM on a Saturday morning.  Back in the day, waking up this early on a Saturday was key in order to start watching the slate of Saturday morning cartoons but I really wish I could figure out what I’m waking up early for now.  What’s really odd is that every morning during the week when my alarm goes off, I can’t seem to find the motivation to get out of bed and hit the gym, but once the weekend comes around I’m wide awake before the sun comes out to play.

All this got me thinking though.  What ever happened to Saturday morning cartoons? I’d roll out of bed, start off with some Kroft Superstars (I love me some Land of the Lost), then roll into some Tom and Jerry or Heckle and Jeckle followed by random Hanna Barbera toons.  I still miss Grape Ape and Hong Kong Phooey and I’m totally jealous that my wife got to meet Mr. Phooey himself, Scatman Crothers before he died.  After the early morning session, we’d hit Saturday Morning Prime Time with shows like Thundarr the Barbarian and the super campy Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.  Anyway, in honor of my inability to sleep in on a Saturday morning, I give you my boy Sigmund and his rotten Sea Monster family.

Chinese Democracy Sucks

Man am I disillusioned.  I loved the Use Your Illusion albums, I wore down Appetite for Destruction album to such a degree that I had to rebuy the damn thing (and then buy it again on CD), but the new GNR disc just blows.  There are a couple of decent tracks, but once I power through the thing I doubt I’ll ever listen to it again.  Serves me right for buying a CD instead of just listening to the album on Rhapsody.
